BOHEMIAN GROOVE Single Review - Oystermouth Radio's Welsh Connections - December 2014
Single Review : World Vs. World : Bohemian Groove (Death Monkey Records / 2014).
No strangers to this page or our radio show, World Vs World have always had an ear/eye to the political climate and with their latest release, Bohemian Groove, they have surpassed themselves with what we consider their most accomplished and commercial release to date. Using the behind-the-scenes, political movers & shakers as the genesis for this conspiracy theory based commentary on the world today, the boys have delivered a single which immediately catches your breath with it's powerhouse drumming and bassline, held together by some great guitar work and vocals. They have even invested (a good move) in a fantastic video to accompany the release. An imaginative B&W piece filled with mysterious, shadowy men meeting in secret........now that would never happen in this day and age.......surely ? - Michael Kennedy |
Review of The Six Degrees Of Separation E.P. Feedback Music Magazine, April 2010
Ally's Review Page
World Vs. World are a three piece band consisting of Kirk Bowen, (vocals, guitar); Damian Harris, (drums), Krist Davison, (bass, vocals). They formed in January 2007 and have been aired on Radio Tircoed, Nation Radio and Radio 1. They list their influences as Metallica, ACDC as well as Jimmy Eat World and Blink 182 and it's quite easy to see these influences in their music. This month I am reviewing their 6 track CD entitled 'The Six Degrees of Separation'.
The lyrics are clever and it's clear that this band have musical talent. The first track 'Palpitation' is very interesting, it starts as quite soft rock then becomes heavier and finishes using a soundclip of a resuscitation team, something I haven't heard before. The singer's voice is unique, but on some tracks sounds strained which decreases the effect of their music, but generally his vocals suit their music well. The definite bass helps the music sound professional and the drummer is brilliant and certainly helps make the music memorable. It was surprising and quite funny to hear explicit words at the end of track 6 'The Honeytrap', something I was definately not expecting although the song is brilliant with a hooking guitar riff. 'Lost at Sea' is one of my favourite tracks, especially with the bassline and the lyrics. Other tracks include 'The Optimist', 'Pay the Price' and 'Layer Cake' which are all worth a listen.
They are a band to watch out for and they'll definitely become big on the local scene and have quite a few gigs coming up... Check out www.myspace.com/worldvsworldrock for more information on the band and their up and coming gigs.

Interview with New School Sins online Fanzine, October 2011
This weeks feature band............
World Vs .World
Kirk Bowen – Vocals/Guitar
Krist Davison – Bass/Vocals
Damian Harris - Drums
We caught the lads back stage after their headline show at The Duke in Neath, South Wales, on 7 October…
HEY GUYS GREAT SHOW, SO HOW HAVE YOU ALL BEEN ???
KIRK: Very good, thank you…we’re ALL very good! We just played a gig, we kicked ass!
WHAT HAVE YOU GUYS BEEN UP TO THEN?
DAMIAN: Well, we were on the radio last week, Newport City Radio, aye, uhm…playing some songs and shit…
KIRK: Yes, it was very good, we’ve had some positive feedback..
KRIST: Apparently it was being filmed but we didn’t realise!
SO WE ALL WANNA KNOW ONE THING HOW DID WORLD VS. WORLD COME ABOUT?
KIRK: Uhm…basically…I was in a band called Against The Grain…and that band split in late 2006 and I was introduced to Damian by a mutual friend, James Morgan…and me and Damian got together with James on the bass, but after a year and a half, James had to leave due to other band commitments and then me and Damian recorded our 2 E.P. on our own at Counterpoint Studio in Swansea and Krist was the engineer who was recording it…and we liked Krist cos he’s fucking awesome…(Krist chuckles)…and we invited him to join, and he jumped at the chance!
HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE NAME, WORLD VS. WORLD?
KIRK: Aw, you’ll have to ask Damian for that one…
DAMIAN: It came from the back of my mind! In 2005…but I wanted to save it for a band I felt were worthy to be called it! Uhm…have you got my papers, Kirk?!…uhm I heard it was supposed to be the name of a Green Day song but due to a printing error when the album was being made the song ended up getting called something else and the name was never used, so I adopted it!
KRIST: I find it quite funny when people get it wrong! Cos, y’know…it’s not rocket science! Like “The World Vs. World” or “The World Vs. The World”…you don’t NEED “The”…what other world am I fucking talking about?!
SO YOU GUYS HAVE DONE A LOT BUT HOW LONG HAVE YOU ACTUALLY BEEN TOGETHER ?
KIRK: Well me and Damian have been together since the beginning of 2007
DAMIAN: Yeah almost 5 years we’ve been together…
KIRK: But Krist…World Vs. World as we like to know it, was from when Krist joined and I think that was Christmas time? 2009?DAMIAN: Yeah end of 2009…(to Krist)…you been with us 2 years now, come December!
KIRK: To be honest that’s when it started properly.
SO EVERY BAND GROW UP LISTENING TO SOMETHING THAT MAKES THEM THINK YEAH I COULD DO THIS BUT WHO WERE YOU GUYS INFLUENCED BY?
DAMIAN: We’re influenced by everybody I reckon, even the stuff we hate!
KIRK: We’ve all got different influences…like Damian is…is…is the punkmeister…Krist, Krist is well into his punk but like the underground punk, whereas I’m more of an oldskool rock-head.
DAMIAN: I’d say the old Britrock thing is a big influence on me as well…y’know, like 3 Colours Red and China Drum and Therapy? And…all that sort of shit
KRIST: Are we like…allowed to swear in this…?
DAMIAN: Fuck knows
KRIST: OK!
SO GUYS WHAT BANDS ARE YOU LISTENING TO AT THE MINUTE?
KIRK: The Biff!!!
DAMIAN: Uuh, yeah, Biffy Clyro…
KIRK: I was into Muse but Muse have subsided to the Biff! I love the Biff!
SO I'VE GOT ONE GOLDEN TICKET TO TOUR WITH ANY AND IN THE WORLD WHO
WOULD YOU GUYS PICK?
KIRK: The Biff!!!
DAMIAN: Foo Fighters…
KRIST: Queens of The Stone Age…
DAMIAN: Rancid…
KIRK: Muse are too big now!
KRIST: I do’t think we’re ready for a stadium tour yet Kirk!
KIRK: All we need is bigger gear!
KRIST: I think someone once described us as “stadium rock”…
KIRK: Fucking damn right!!!
DAMIAN: Yeah, stadium rock on a budget! Tesco Value Stadium Rock!
KIRK: If you were backstage at Wembley ready to go on now you’d be surprised how quick your mind would go, “Fuck! Game on!”…if the gear’s there, we’ll do it! The only thing I’d be worried about is…”oh, is my pedal ok…?” but I wouldn’t have to worry about that…KRIST: I’d need a bigger amp…
KIRK: That’s my point, if you had the gear though…if you had the gear, the sound would be there man!...I wanna tour with Nirvana!
DAMIAN: Kirk, that’s NOT gonna happen!
KRIST: Lagwagon…aww…Bad Religion! Oh my God! I bet it’d be awesome!
SO GUYS WE ALWAYS HERE OF BANDS BEING COMPARED TO ONE AND OTHER WHO WOULD YOU GUYS COMPARE YOURSELVES TO?
KRIST: I don’t think that’s a fair question!
KIRK: I’d hate to say, cos i don’t wanna offend any other band!
DAMIAN: I don’t think we sound like anybody other than World Vs. World…other people could probably find similarities with bands out there somewhere, but that’s up to other people to tag us with, you know what I mean?
KIRK: The thing is, every band, every band, thinks they’re original, y’know, but their fans will find similarities to other bands, but every band out there, of all time has always thought “oh, we’re very original…” and they may not come across as original but as far as they’re concerned, they are, and as far as we’re concerned, WE’RE original…
DAMIAN: But we’re MORE original than most!!!
SO WHAT DO YOU GUYS ENJOY MOST LIVE SHOWS OR STUDIO?
DAMIAN: I can’t fucking stand recording! Studio recording is a means to an end!
KIRK: I love being in the studio...usually when I go into the studio I’ve got a good idea of what I want it to sound like so I’m at an advantage…
DAMIAN: It’s interesting…y’know? It’s interesting cos it’s a completely different environment to playing live and also the final product is also very sweet to hear, y’know, you don’t get to hear the final product of a live gig, but you get to hear the final product of your time in the studio, but it IS hard work and it IS fucking time consuming and at times seems tedious, y’know, when you’re on your 47 take of the same song and shit…the time in the studio is the “work” time, playing gigs is the fun.
KRIST: I’ve got a different perspective of the studio, obviously coming from an engineering background, so it’s slightly different for me but it’s different for me recording somebody else than somebody else to be recording you…
SO EVERY SHOW YOU PLAY I NO YOU GUYS LOVE BUT HAS THEY EVER BEEN A SHOW WERE YOU HAVE JUST WANTED TO STOP?
KIRK: Well we’ve never thought, “let’s just get to the end” or anything, we’ve always thought something may go wrong, usually it’s…something out of our hands…technical difficulties or poor sound…usually it’s not cos we’re playing badly…if that were to happen, whoever it is would be sacked!
KRIST: In the past if things have started to go wrong or fall apart we just, kind of, grit our teeth and keep going.
KIRK: It’s the only way to do it! When we played tonight…it started off a bit…dodgy, the mic stand fell on me and it broke the mic so I had to steal Krist’s mic…but uhm…we soldiered on and in the end I think we won a lot of minds and hearts!
SO GUYS THANK YOU ALL LOADS FOR DOING THIS I NO YOU GUYS ARE QUITE BUSY BUT ITS BEEN AMAZING BUT ONE LAST QUESTION BEFORE I LEAVE YOU ALL WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR FAVOURITE MEMORY OF WORLD VS. WORLD?
KIRK: My FAVOURITE memory of World Vs. World, I’ve gotta be honest, is…I’ve probably never told Damian this…was meeting Damian for the first time.
KRIST: Awwwww!
KIRK: I remember meeting Krist, but…y’know…World Vs. World was “alive” then, already, but that was still a great experience, but I never knew that Krist was gonna join…know what I mean? But when I met Damian I already knew that he was “in”, know what I mean? And I remember James walked me into this room…and I think I passed there the other day actually…it was in the Krypt of a church or something…
DAMIAN: Yeah it was a church hall wasn’t it?
KIRK: Yeah and I remember walking in and Damian was just sitting at his drumkit ready with his drum sticks as if to say, “Come on then…motherfucker…I don’t even know who the fuck you are, but I’m ready!”, and I remember I kicked into Automobile (Against The Grain song)…and doong doong chh doong doong doong chh doong doong doong chh…and…he fucking…away he went! Away he went! And from that moment I knew, that was the fucking man! And he didn’t say a word! I don’t think I actually heard his voice for about fucking three weeks!
DAMIAN: I’m not very talkative…
KIRK: He just played. He just turned up and played!
